Where Our Data Comes From
Transparency matters. Here's how we research, collect, and maintain the data that powers AIPulse — including user counts, pricing, and tool information.
How We Collect Data
Our research team compiles data from a combination of official sources, vendor-published information, and industry research. For each tool listed on AIPulse, we gather information through:
- Official vendor announcements — press releases, blog posts, earnings reports, and public statements from the companies behind each tool
- Published platform statistics — download counts, marketplace listings, app store data, and usage metrics that companies make publicly available
- Industry reports and analyst research — third-party market research, analyst estimates, and published industry benchmarks
- Open-source project metrics — for tools built on open-source foundations, we reference GitHub stars, package downloads (npm, PyPI), and contributor activity
- Direct vendor engagement — where possible, we work directly with tool providers to verify and update their listings with accurate information
Monthly Active Users (MAU)
The "Users" column in our directory displays estimated monthly active users for each tool. These figures are compiled from:
- Company-reported figures — many AI companies publicly share user milestones in press releases, investor presentations, or blog posts
- App store and platform data — publicly listed download counts and active install bases
- Industry analyst estimates — where direct data isn't available, we reference credible third-party estimates and cross-reference multiple sources
User counts are displayed in abbreviated format (e.g., "2B" for 2 billion, "100K" for 100,000) and represent our best available estimate at the time of last update.
Pulse Score Data
The Tool Performance Score (TPS) — our Pulse Score — is generated by a panel of 6 independent AI judges from 6 different labs, evaluating each tool across 5 dimensions. The evidence provided to judges includes publicly available reviews, documentation, pricing pages, community discussions, and benchmark results.
For full details on how scores are calculated, see our Scoring Methodology page.
Update Frequency
The AI industry moves fast, and we work to keep our data current:
- Tool listings — reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis as new information becomes available
- User counts — updated when companies release new figures or credible third-party estimates are published
- Pulse Scores — rescored periodically as new evidence is gathered, with score history tracked over time
- New tools — added to the directory as they reach sufficient maturity and public visibility to be meaningfully evaluated
A Note on Data Accuracy
The AI industry is one of the fastest-moving sectors in technology. Many companies — particularly newer startups and open-source projects — do not publicly disclose detailed usage statistics, revenue figures, or user counts. As a result:
- All data presented on AIPulse represents our best-effort research based on the most reliable sources available at the time of publication
- Some figures are estimates derived from multiple data points and should be treated as approximate rather than exact
- Where data is unavailable or unverifiable, we leave the field blank rather than guess — you may notice some tools without user counts for this reason
- We continuously work to improve our coverage and accuracy as more data becomes publicly available and as we establish relationships with more tool providers
If you represent a tool listed on AIPulse and would like to update or correct your information, please get in touch. We welcome direct input from tool providers to ensure our listings are as accurate as possible.
